Unair Student Allegedly Embezzles Rp 97 Million from KIP-K Organisation Funds
A student named Yuni Ilma Permatasari, known as YIP, has been accused of embezzling up to Rp 97 million within the Airlangga University Bidik Misi Organization (AUBMO), a student organisation for recipients of the Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) scholarship at Universitas Airlangga (Unair). YIP served as Minister of Finance for AUBMO for the 2025/2026 period.
Information regarding the alleged embezzlement first surfaced via a post on the Instagram account @unairjournal. The post stated that the misappropriated funds, amounting to around Rp 97 million, came from voluntary contributions collected from KIP-K scholarship students at the end of each semester.
YIP is a student in the D4 Digital Office Management programme at Unair’s Faculty of Vocational Studies, class of 2023. The @unairjournal post strongly criticised the alleged misuse of funds, calling it a betrayal of the organisation’s values.
The funds in question were reportedly sourced from voluntary donations by KIP-K students from four active cohorts. These contributions were originally intended for the organisation’s operational costs and welfare programmes for students receiving educational aid. The admin of the @unairjournal account noted that the exact number of affected students was unknown, but the suspected source of the corruption was the voluntary dues, which had no minimum amount and were not mandatory. The admin also questioned the large sum involved, pointing out that the organisation’s annual budget from the university was typically under Rp 10 million, making the nearly Rp 100 million figure highly suspicious.
Amidst the public discussion, AUBMO issued an official statement signed by its chairpersons for the 2026/2027, 2025/2026, and acting chair for the 2024/2025 periods. The organisation confirmed that a member of its executive board had misused funds for personal gain. Following an internal clarification, the individual admitted to the act and expressed willingness to return all the funds. AUBMO emphasised that this was a personal action contrary to the organisation’s values and commitment, and it is coordinating with the Directorate of Student Affairs to resolve the case and conduct a thorough evaluation of its financial oversight and management systems.
Responding to the case, Unair’s Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Centre, Pulung Siswantara, stated the university had received a clarification from AUBMO representatives through the Directorate of Student Affairs. The initial findings indicated issues related to administration and financial governance, particularly the use of a personal account for managing activity funds. The university noted that the fund collection was known to relevant parties and did not have a specific reporting obligation as perceived by some. Unair is now working with AUBMO to reform the organisation’s financial management mechanisms, with the university providing ongoing assistance, monitoring, and evaluation. The case is currently being handled through internal mechanisms, with the university conducting further investigation before deciding on any sanctions for the student involved.
