Unair Student Admits Embezzling Rp 103 Million in KIP Kuliah Funds to Repay Online Loans and Cover Parents' Medical Bills
Airlangga University (Unair) in Surabaya is currently investigating a student from the Faculty of Vocational Studies regarding the alleged embezzlement of Rp 103 million from student organisation funds under the Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) programme, which was allegedly used for personal interests.
“It is currently in the process of being investigated,” stated the Rector of Unair, Prof. Muhammad Madyan, at the campus on Thursday.
The student under investigation, identified by the initials YIP, is from the D4 Digital Office Management Study Programme within the Faculty of Vocational Studies and serves as the Treasurer for the Airlangga Bidik Misi Organization (AUBMO) for the 2025/2026 period.
Unair Secretary Prof. Dwi Setyawan stated that the Faculty of Vocational Studies has followed up on the case through an internal meeting to discuss the necessary resolution steps.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Relations, Media, and Protocol Centre (PHMP) at Unair, Pulung Siswantara, noted that the university has received a clarification from AUBMO representatives through the Directorate of Student Affairs.
According to Pulung, initial clarification results indicate issues relating to administrative aspects and organisational financial management, particularly regarding the use of personal bank accounts for managing activity funds.
“The collection of funds by the organisation was known by the relevant parties, and at the time of implementation, there was no specific reporting obligation as perceived by some parties,” he said.
He added that every student organisation must implement principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance in financial management. Consequently, AUBMO and the Directorate of Student Affairs are committed to administrative improvements, including restructuring the financial management mechanism and ensuring the use of organisational accounts complies with applicable regulations.
Pulung mentioned that the organisation involved is currently settling its obligations through a phased scheme with guidance from the university.
“The university will continue to provide assistance, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure the resolution process proceeds according to the agreement and serves as a momentum for improving student organisation governance in the future,” he added.
On the other hand, YIP admitted to using the organisation’s funds for personal interests without involving other committee members or organisational officials.
“I accept all consequences imposed by the university and take full responsibility for my actions without involving any other parties,” she stated.
