Universitas Airlangga (Unair) has placed 276th globally in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR) 2027, simultaneously securing the third-best position in Indonesia, a result attributed to sustained institutional transformation. “This is not just a number or a position in a ranking. It is the result of a long journey, hard work, commitment, and collaboration from the entire Unair academic community in building a more excellent and globally competitive institution,” said Unair Rector Prof Muhammad Madyan in Surabaya on Thursday. Prof Madyan stated that the achievement is the outcome of consistent quality improvement processes carried out by all Unair academic members in the fields of education, research, innovation, and institutional governance. He explained that several indicators in the ranking showed significant improvement, particularly the International Research Network (IRN) indicator, which rose from second to first place nationally. “Various cross-border research collaborations, joint publications, joint supervision, visiting professors, and other forms of global academic partnerships have contributed very significantly to strengthening Unair’s position at the international level,” he said. Additionally, the International Faculty indicator also recorded an increase in score and rank, lifting Unair’s national position from fourth to third. “The presence of lecturers and researchers from various countries not only enriches the campus academic atmosphere but also improves the quality of learning, strengthens the research and publication ecosystem, and expands the global scientific network for our students and lecturers,” Prof Madyan added. On the Faculty Student Ratio indicator, Unair improved its score and global ranking while maintaining its position as second best in Indonesia. The Academic Reputation indicator also showed improvement, demonstrating stronger recognition from the international academic community of Unair’s quality. According to Prof Madyan, the ranking achievement is a reflection of the quality and impact that Unair has produced, but it is not the ultimate goal of institutional development. “Unair will continue to strengthen campus internationalisation, expand global research networks, improve the quality of education and academic reputation, and build increasingly adaptive, innovative, and data-based institutional governance,” he said. Going forward, Unair will continue to focus on producing quality education, impactful research, beneficial innovations, and graduates capable of contributing to national development and the global community. “Let us make this achievement new energy to continue working, collaborating, and innovating, to realise a Unair that has an even greater impact for Indonesia and the world,” Madyan concluded.
