Unable to withdraw funds, savings cooperative in Temanggung reported to police by depositors
Temanggung (ANTARA) - Temanggung District Police in Central Java are investigating alleged embezzlement of funds at savings and loans cooperative (KSP) Tunas Harapan in the district, following reports from depositors unable to withdraw their money.
"To date, four depositors have reported alleged embezzlement of savings funds at KSP Tunas Harapan, after their funds could not be withdrawn," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit at Temanggung District Police, AKP Didik Tri Wibowo, in Temanggung on Friday.
The case emerged after indications surfaced from 13 February 2026 of difficulties in withdrawing savings and six-month fixed deposits at the cooperative. In the past two weeks, all KSP Tunas Harapan offices have reportedly ceased operations entirely.
He stated that the four depositors who filed reports held varying deposit amounts. The largest loss reached approximately Rp1 billion, whilst others amounted to roughly Rp700 million and Rp100 million respectively. The total losses are still being tallied, he said, as the number of affected depositors has yet to be confirmed.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and gathering testimony and documents related to the cooperative's operations. So far, seven individuals have been called in for questioning, including one marketing officer from KSP Tunas Harapan.
KSP Tunas Harapan is known to have commenced operations in 2012, with its head office in Ngadirejo. The cooperative had branches in Temanggung, Kranggan, and Kandangan. All offices are reported to have closed.
Didik urged the public to exercise greater caution when investing funds, including verifying the legality and financial health of financial institutions or cooperatives through the relevant authorities before placing their money.
The investigation is ongoing to uncover the precise number of affected depositors and the overall potential losses in this case.
