The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) has revealed that the public can now register for a Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) independently through the DJP Coretax system without needing to visit a tax office.

However, the DJP has also provided guidance for prospective taxpayers experiencing issues such as not receiving the One-Time Password (OTP) code during the telephone number or email verification process.

Quoting an article written by DJP employee Salis Purnajati, NPWP registration can be performed through the DJP Coretrom portal by selecting the “New User? Register here” menu. This process requires prospective taxpayers to verify their telephone numbers and email addresses using an OTP code.

The DJP acknowledged that in some cases, users do not receive the OTP code during the registration process. For telephone number verification, users are requested to ensure the system displays a notification that the verification code has been successfully sent before waiting for the SMS OTP to arrive.

Additionally, the DJP reminded users that the telephone number used for registration must be active, have sufficient credit, and not be a postpaid number. “Taxpayers are advised not to request the OTP repeatedly, as this can cause the received codes to accumulate,” the DJP wrote in the article.

If an error occurs because the entered telephone number is incorrect, users can enter “000” as the OTP code and then re-verify with the correct number. The DJP also revealed that OTP delivery issues could be caused by disruptions in the messaging services of telecommunications operators. Currently, the operators officially partnered for the DJP Coretax OTP service include Telkomsel, XL, Indosat, Tri, and Axis.

Regarding email verification issues, the DJP requests users to ensure the email address has been written correctly and to check all email folders, including the spam folder. Users are also asked to ensure that their email inbox capacity is sufficient. For users with corporate or private email domains, the DJP advises ensuring that email security systems do not block messages originating from the @pajak.go.id domain.

In addition to OTP issues, the DJP provided several technical steps that can be taken before accessing Coretax. Users are advised to clear their browser cache and cookies first to avoid disruptions when accessing the system. For Mozilla Firefox users, the DJP recommends using the New Private Window feature (Ctrl + Shift + P), while Google Chrome users can utilise the Incognito Window feature (Ctrl + Shift + N) when opening the DJP Coretax page.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, the DJP emphasised that the public can still obtain NPWP registration services through the Kring Pajak Contact Centre at 1500200 or via the live chat service on the official DJP website. Alternatively, NPWP registration can be done in person by visiting the nearest Tax Service Office (KPP) or Tax Service, Counseling, and Consultation Office (KP2KP), or by sending forms via post or courier services.

This guidance was issued by the DJP to ensure that the NPWP registration process through the Coretax system runs smoothly and facilitates the public in fulfilling their tax obligations digitally.
