UN team to assess W. Timor security
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: A team of United Nations Security Coordination delegates will soon visit West Timor in East Nusa Tenggara for five days to assess security conditions there, the Indonesian Military said on Wednesday.
The five delegates will recommend whether the United Nations should revoke the alert status in West Timor, after the visit scheduled for May 13 to May 17, said Wirasakti Military commander Col. Moeswarno Moesanip, who oversees security in East Nusa Tenggara.
The alert status was declared by the UN Security Council on Sept. 8 2000, two days after three UN High Commission for Refugees officials were killed by alleged militiamen in Atambua, Belu. -- JP
