UN: Target to End Global Hunger by 2030 Will Not Be Achieved
Moscow (ANTARA) - The UN General Assembly’s target to end global hunger by 2030 will not be achieved, stated Oleg Kobyakov, Head of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Liaison Office for Russia, to RIA Novosti.
“If we recall that humanity, through decisions by the UN General Assembly, has set the task of eliminating the phenomenon of hunger in the world by 2030, it is clear that this task cannot be implemented at this time. At the very least, with the current rate of development, that target is impossible to reach,” he said.
Kobyakov added that while some progress has been made, including a reduction in the scale of global hunger, the current trajectory is concerning. If current dynamics continue, it is estimated that by 2030, approximately 512 million people worldwide will still be experiencing hunger.
This situation does not yet include the impact of conflicts in the Middle East region, he noted, as reported by RIA Novosti from Moscow.
