The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has warned of rising waves of hatred against Muslims across the globe.

He has called for urgent action from governments, technology companies, and society to combat the increasingly widespread Islamophobia.

The warning was issued on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, which is observed annually on 15 March.

In his statement, Türk said Muslims around the world face increased hostility and discrimination, both directly and through digital spaces.

“On this International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we honour Muslims around the world whose contributions make communities stronger and societies richer,” Türk said in a statement on social media, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Monday, 16 March 2026.

He added that the world is currently experiencing an increasingly alarming wave of Islamophobia. “We are sounding the alarm about a growing wave of Islamophobia,” he said.

According to Türk, various studies show that harassment, discrimination, and violence against Muslims are increasing in many regions.
