UN Secretary-General to Visit Indonesia
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will visit Indonesia to discuss multilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the UN.
“Early on Saturday morning, the UN Secretary-General will make an official visit to Indonesia. During a series of meetings, he will discuss, among other things, strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and the United Nations within the multilateral system,” UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement on Saturday (17 October 2026).
During the visit, Guterres will pay tribute to Indonesia’s longstanding commitment to UN peacekeeping operations. He will also meet Indonesian troops preparing to serve in a peacekeeping mission in Central Africa.
“He will visit the Indonesian National Armed Forces Peacekeeping Mission Centre (PMPP TNI), where he will meet Indonesian personnel who are soon to be deployed to the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, MINUSCA,” Haq said.
While in Jakarta, Guterres will also deliver a speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the future of multilateralism, Haq said.
“The Secretary-General will also lay a wreath at a memorial to honour the extraordinary sacrifice of 50 Indonesian peacekeepers who died while serving under the UN flag,” he added.
