UN Secretary-General Spends the Night in Hambalang
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia said in an official statement that United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres would spend Sunday night (18 October) at President Prabowo Subianto’s private residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, and remain there until Monday.
“According to the schedule, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will spend the night at President Prabowo’s residence in Hambalang,” the Cabinet Secretariat said in a post published on Sunday evening.
Guterres visited Prabowo’s private residence in Hambalang on Sunday, where the two discussed several issues, including reform of multilateralism, the effects of climate change and the latest situation in Palestine.
During the meeting, Guterres also thanked and praised Indonesia for contributing Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel to serve with UN peacekeeping forces in several countries, including Lebanon, which is currently also under attack by Israel.
He also bade farewell to Prabowo, as his term as UN Secretary-General is due to end in December 2026.
Guterres was accompanied by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Water, Retno Marsudi, and the UN Resident Coordinator for Indonesia, Gita Sabharwal.
From Hambalang, the UN chief was scheduled to visit the TNI Peacekeeping Mission Centre (PMPP) in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Monday. At the centre, where TNI personnel train and prepare for UN peacekeeping missions, Guterres was due to pay tribute to 50 Indonesian soldiers who died while serving with UN peacekeeping forces.
Guterres was then scheduled to deliver a speech entitled “Eight Decades of the United Nations: What’s Next?” at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta.
After completing his engagements, Guterres was scheduled to return to New York, United States, on Monday.
