UN Secretary-General: Middle East Conflict is Out of Control
United Nations (ANTARA) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on Wednesday (25/3), stated that the conflict in the Middle East region is now out of control and has exceeded unimaginable boundaries.
“More than three weeks have passed, the war is out of control. The conflict has crossed boundaries that even leaders never imagined,” Guterres said during a United Nations Security Council press conference.
Guterres also stated that it is time to stop the escalation and begin diplomatic efforts as well as fully respect international law.
“I have communicated intensively with all parties I believe can help end this horrific conflict,” he said.
The escalation around Iran has caused a de facto halt to traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which is the main shipping route for oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries to global markets, affecting oil exports and production in the region.
