UN Investigation: Indonesian TNI Soldier Killed by Israeli Tank Fire

Shots from a tank of the Israeli occupation forces (IDF) have been identified as the cause of death for an Indonesian TNI soldier serving with the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon. This was revealed in a preliminary UN investigation.

The Times of Israel reported that the peacekeeper was killed on Sunday night when a projectile of unknown origin “exploded at a UNIFIL position near Adchit al Qusayr.”

A UN source later stated that the investigation had shown the shot came from an Israeli tank, adding that “debris from the tank shell had been found” at the location.

Meanwhile, the TNI reported that Private First Class Farizal Romadhon, an Indonesian soldier, was killed in an artillery attack in southern Lebanon on Sunday (29/3/2026). The attack struck the Indobatt UNP 7-1 area in Adshit Al-Qusyar, where Private First Class Farizal was serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission.

The Head of Information for the Iskandar Muda Military Regional Command (Kapendam), Colonel Inf Mustafa Kamal, stated that Private First Class Farizal Romadhon was a member of Infantry Battalion 113/Jaya Sakti (Yonif 113/JS), which is part of the TNI Mechanised Battalion Task Force in the Garuda XXIII-S Contingent.

The Head of the TNI Headquarters Information Centre (Kapuspen), Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, revealed that arrangements are underway to repatriate Private First Class Farizal’s body to Indonesia with assistance from the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut. The body is currently laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters (HQ).

The TNI stated it is awaiting the results of the UNIFIL investigation for complete information regarding the attack. Aulia Dwi Nasrullah noted that the increasing intensity of conflict in the area formed the background for this artillery attack.

Private First Class Farizal Romadhon joined the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon in April 2025 and was scheduled to return to Indonesia in May 2026.
