UN force arrests five Indonesians

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The United Nations Peacekeeping Force (UN-PKF) in East Timor has arrested five Indonesians for allegedly entering the territory illegally and smuggling cigarettes and canned drinks into the country.

Wirasakti Military Commander Col. Inf. Moeswarno Moesanip said in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Friday that the five were arrested last Oct. 1 at Memo village, East Timor.

"The UN-PKF has taken the big step of preventing smuggling across the border. I thank UN-PKF as we are no longer clapping with one hand, as in previous cases," Moesanip was quoted by Antara as saying on Friday.

The five were identified as Achung, 48; Robertus Tira, 44; Kamilus Mau, 41; Domineus Boe, 45; and Kristianus Mau, 38.

The five were taken to Maliana, Bobonaro district, East Timor for questioning. --Antara
