UN Condemns Ongoing Houthi Attacks Against Saudi Arabia
The United Nations on Monday (22/9) condemned the ongoing attacks by the Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, while urging all parties to exercise restraint and prevent further escalation.
“We reaffirm our condemnation of the continuous Houthi cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia, including attempts to target the capital, Riyadh. This is in addition to attacks against civilians and energy infrastructure in other regions of Saudi Arabia,” said Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.
“We remain deeply concerned about the ongoing military escalation in and around Yemen, including Houthi attacks in Taiz, Lahj, and Marib, which carry serious consequences for civilians in Yemen and the entire region,” Dujarric told reporters during a press conference.
The UN urged the relevant parties to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law, which includes the prohibition of direct attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
According to Dujarric, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, is currently in Muscat to meet with senior Omani officials and Houthi representatives.
