UN Concerned Over Fuel Crisis in Cuba

The United Nations has expressed concern over the fuel crisis occurring in Cuba. “In recent days, as you have observed, there have been some real problems in the fuel crisis, and we have expressed our concern about that. Some months ago, we noted some progress in getting small amounts of fuel, and we are continuing to work on that,” Deputy UN Spokesperson Farhan Haq said on Tuesday. Haq added that the UN has spoken to various countries to help Cuba provide the fuel needed for humanitarian purposes. In late January, the United States imposed tariffs on imports from oil-supplying countries to Cuba. The move is considered to have worsened the fuel crisis and impacted power generation, transport, food production, healthcare, and education.
