Hamilton, Canada (ANTARA) - The United Nations (UN) on Tuesday said it was ‘deeply concerned’ about the fate and safety of Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) activists after Israeli Zionist forces intercepted all vessels in the humanitarian convoy to the Gaza Strip. ‘We are deeply concerned about the safety of everyone on the ships. They must be protected, and they must be assured to remain safe,’ UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said at a briefing. ‘International law on the high seas must be observed,’ he added. When asked whether UN Secretary-General António Guterres would affirm the abduction of the flotilla activists as a violation of international law, Dujarric said it would require further review at this time. ‘But it appears that such actions were not conducted in full respect of international law,’ the UN secretary-general’s spokesperson said. Dujarric also reiterated to the Zionist regime not to further restrict humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip. ‘Remember that the best way to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza is through official channels, and in order for more aid to reach, Israel must remove various obstacles and restrictions that prevent us from delivering the necessary assistance,’ Dujarric said. The UN spokesperson also highlighted critical shortages of spare parts for power generation installations and pumping stations, the accumulation of solid waste, and the lack of materials needed to rebuild large-scale housing in the Gaza Strip that is still encircled.
