UN: 700,000 Children in Gaza Cannot Access Adequate Education
UNITED NATIONS (ANTARA) – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, said around 700,000 school-age children in the Gaza Strip lack access to adequate educational facilities because schools have been destroyed.
“Since 2023, Gaza’s education system has been destroyed, leaving around 700,000 school-age children unable to access adequate education because schools there have been damaged or destroyed,” Nebenzia told the UN Security Council on Monday (26 October).
Nebenzia added that access to education in crisis-hit areas was a matter of grave concern.
Although a ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 2025, the Israeli military has continued to launch attacks on Palestinian territory, saying its targets are Hamas facilities and members of the Palestinian resistance movement.
According to the UN’s assessment, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains extremely dire, marked by widespread destruction, disruption to medical facilities and persistent challenges in providing food and other basic necessities to residents.
