UN: 100,000 Lebanese displaced amid Israeli aggression
Beirut — A UN official said on Saturday that around 100,000 people in Lebanon had fled amid Israeli aggression, warning that the number is likely to rise following an evacuation alert issued by the Israeli army, unprecedented in scale. The Israeli forces urged residents to leave broad swathes of territory across Lebanon. Imran Riza, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Lebanon, told Reuters that the situation over the past two days had seen unprecedented levels of warnings and evacuation orders, as well as the panic that has spread nationwide. “Sejauh ini, sekitar 100.000 orang tinggal di sekitar 477 penampungan bersama, sementara sekitar 57 penampungan masih memiliki sisa ruang, tetapi kapasitasnya langsung penuh,” katanya. Riza noted that residents were panicking and confused following evacuation warnings from Israel. “Warga berhamburan kemana-mana tanpa tujuan yang pasti, dan saya yakin jumlahnya akan langsung bertambah,” he said, citing incidents in Beirut shelters where the number of families rose from 90 to 150 in a day. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that 123 people were killed and 683 others injured due to Israeli attacks in the country. Riza added that several health workers were killed and injured, calling for respect for international humanitarian law.
