UN: 10 Percent of Gaza's Population on the Brink of Famine

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Monday that 10 percent of Gaza’s population has reached the brink of famine, warning of a worsening and unprecedented living situation across the Gaza Strip. The UN agency said the threat of famine looms over hundreds of thousands of people amid a comprehensive blockade and an ongoing crisis of essential supplies. OCHA stated that humanitarian indicators have reached alarming levels, with 67 percent of the Gaza Strip’s population facing acute food insecurity, struggling daily to obtain staple foods, even for a single meal. The report revealed a deteriorating situation in Gaza due to the disruption of regular humanitarian aid flows, the collapse of local supply chains, and a severe financial crisis impacting international aid operations. OCHA warned that the coming hours will be crucial to prevent a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe. OCHA also urged the reopening of all border crossings and the establishment of safe and sustainable humanitarian corridors to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of food aid and medical supplies before it is too late.
