UMY's Full Statement on Pharmacy Lecturer Allegedly Harassing Female Students

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has issued a statement regarding information on an alleged harassment case involving a lecturer from the Pharmacy Study Programme, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), against female students. The case went viral on social media after a post by the Threads account silentscrm circulated, containing three screenshots of WhatsApp conversations between the lecturer and his students. The three screenshots reportedly came from three different victims, showing inappropriate messages from the lecturer. The caption on the Threads post read: ‘Bastard. You and your enablers must pay for all my suffering so far.’ Following the viral spread of the case, UMY released a written statement signed by UMY Rector Prof Achmad Nurmandi on 11 July 2026. In the statement, UMY confirmed it has investigated the case and suspended the lecturer in question. The university expressed deep concern and provided support, protection, and psychological assistance to the victims, including a safe reporting space, identity confidentiality, and ensuring the process is free from pressure or intimidation. UMY views the matter seriously and is committed to ensuring the campus remains a safe, dignified, and accountable environment. The university has proactively launched a comprehensive investigation involving the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT). Based on initial findings and recommendations from the Pharmacy Programme, FKIK, and the task force, the university has temporarily suspended the lecturer from all academic and non-academic duties until the investigation is complete. UMY stressed it has zero tolerance for any form of harassment, violence, or intimidation. The university requested that the public and academic community allow the investigation to proceed objectively and refrain from spreading speculation or unverified information that could compromise the process or violate the privacy of those involved.
