UMY to Host 2026 Indonesian Digital Library Conference

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is set to become the first private university to host the Indonesian Digital Library Conference (KPDI) in 2026, organised by the Indonesian Digital Library Forum (FPDI).

In a press conference held at the UMY Student Dormitory Mini Ballroom, FPDI Chairman Joko Santoso announced that this year’s conference will introduce a library web portal competition, which is planned to become an annual event. Joko stated that the web portal serves as a reflection of current digital library developments, allowing the public to access various knowledge sources and library services online. “Interaction between users and library managers can be conducted through the web portal, whether in providing knowledge sources, online services, or strengthening digital literacy among the public,” Joko said.

He added that strengthening digital literacy is crucial amidst technological advancements, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the rampant spread of hoaxes. Digital libraries are also continuously transforming their services; where people once had to visit libraries in person, various services can now be accessed online. Joko revealed that the theme for KPDI 2027 will address post-plagiarism, credibility, accessibility, and knowledge development.

Meanwhile, the Head of the National Library of Indonesia, E. Aminudin Aziz, emphasised the importance of maintaining the accuracy of information presented through digital libraries. “How can we guarantee the accuracy of the information presented through this digital library,” Aminudin questioned. He noted that the National Library’s collections, such as books, journals, newspapers, magazines, and ancient manuscripts, have relatively few issues regarding data accuracy. The real challenge arises when information comes from various other digital providers.
