UMS Rector Stresses OBE as Key Focus at ALPTK PTMA National Meeting in Lampung
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has once again demonstrated its role in strengthening Muhammadiyah higher education. This was evidenced by its active participation in the XVII National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Association of Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Higher Education Teacher Training Institutions (ALPTK PTMA) based on Outcome Based Education (OBE), alongside the 12th ProfunEdu 2026, held in Lampung.
In the forum, which was attended by leaders of Muhammadiyah higher education institutions from across Indonesia, the Chairman of ALPTK PTMA and Rector of UMS, Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum, emphasised that the national meeting serves as a strategic momentum to strengthen teacher education transformation through the implementation of Outcome Based Education (OBE), the strengthening of research, and the enhancement of graduate competitiveness.
The opening ceremony, held at the Mahan Agung Official Residence, the residence of the Governor of Lampung, on Thursday (25/6/2026), was attended by the Governor of Lampung, Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, and the Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Fajar Riza Ul Haq, MA, as well as the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership of Lampung, Prof. Dr. Sudarman, rectors of Muhammadiyah Universities in Lampung Province, and deans and heads of study programmes from LPTK PTMA across Indonesia.
As Chairman of ALPTK PTMA, Harun explained that the national meeting and ProfunEdu are annual agendas organised rotationally both domestically and abroad. Previously, similar activities were successfully held in Australia, Bali, and Taiwan.
He noted that the forum serves not only as a gathering for inter-institutional networking but also as a strategic space to formulate the development direction of ALPTK PTMA in addressing evolving educational challenges.
“Through this national meeting, ALPTK PTMA is strengthening its commitment to implementing Outcome Based Education, or outcome-based curriculum, increasing the quality of educational research, and preparing graduates who possess global competence and are capable of meeting the needs of the workforce,” he stated on Friday (26/6/2026).
For UMS, he continued, this forum reaffirms its commitment to leading an adaptive teacher education transformation that is oriented towards learning outcomes and capable of producing graduates who are excellent, possess integrity, and are globally competitive.
In addition to institutional agendas, the XVII National Meeting also featured various strategic discussions regarding the strengthening of outcome-based curricula, learning innovation, research collaboration, and the internationalisation of Muhammadiyah higher education.
On this occasion, the Governor of Lampung, Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, expressed his appreciation for hosting the XVII ALPTK PTMA National Meeting in Lampung Province. He expressed hope that collaboration between the local government, Muhammadiyah, and higher education institutions would improve the quality of higher education while driving an increase in the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in Lampung, which is currently below the national average.
The Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Fajar Risa Ul Haq, MA, conveyed the government’s policy direction regarding the development of the teaching profession. He emphasised that, moving forward, there will no longer be honorary teachers in public schools, as all recruitment will be conducted through the ASN PPPK scheme.
Fajar also explained new policies regarding teacher certification. Graduates of educational study programmes will no longer be required to undergo Teacher Professional Education (PPG); instead, they can obtain educator certificates directly through their Bachelor’s (S1) or Diploma 4 (D4) degrees in education. PPG will instead be focused on graduates from non-education backgrounds who are teaching within their respective fields.
The XVII ALPTK PTMA National Meeting based on OBE and the 12th ProfunEdu 2026 is expected to further strengthen the position of ALPTK PTMA as a driver for improving the quality of teacher training institutions within the Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah environment.
