Umrah Requirements 2026: Mandatory Documents, Vaccinations, and Health Checks

Prospective Umrah pilgrims must ensure all administrative and health requirements are met before departing for the Holy Land. In addition to identity documents and a passport, the Saudi Arabian government also mandates specific vaccinations verified through the Electronic International Certificate of Vaccination (eICV). Fulfilling these requirements is a crucial part of the visa application and departure process. Incomplete documents or non-compliant vaccination records could potentially hinder the Umrah journey. Administratively, prospective pilgrims are required to hold a passport valid for at least six months from the departure date. The name on the passport must also consist of a minimum of two words. Furthermore, pilgrims need to prepare their National Identity Card (KTP), Family Card (KK), biometric photographs with a white background, and other supporting documents such as a marriage certificate for couples travelling together. All these documents will be used by the Umrah Travel Organiser (PPIU) in the visa processing and data verification of prospective pilgrims. Beyond administrative documents, health aspects are a critical concern before departure. The Umrah pilgrimage demands excellent physical condition, as pilgrims will undergo a series of stamina-draining activities, such as tawaf, sa’i, and high mobility while in Makkah and Madinah. Therefore, prospective pilgrims are advised to undergo a medical check-up before departure. This examination aims to assess overall health conditions, from blood pressure and blood sugar levels to heart function and other organ conditions. Health checks become increasingly important for pilgrims with a history of specific illnesses, such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, or heart disorders. The examination results can serve as a basis for consultation with a doctor to determine appropriate health preparation steps before travelling. Meanwhile, the Saudi Arabian government requires Indonesian pilgrims to receive the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine, or meningitis vaccine. This vaccine must be administered at least two weeks before departure to provide protection against the risk of meningitis infection, which is prone to occur in high-density environments. In addition to the meningitis vaccine, the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) is also a requirement that must be met by Indonesian pilgrims in accordance with applicable international health regulations. After vaccination, pilgrims will obtain the Electronic International Certificate of Vaccination (eICV) as official proof of international vaccination. This digital certificate can be accessed via the Satu Sehat Mobile application and is an important document to carry during the journey. To obtain vaccinations and the eICV, prospective pilgrims can visit healthcare facilities accredited as international vaccination centres. Prospective pilgrims are advised to schedule vaccinations at least three to four weeks before departure. Besides allowing the body time to build optimal immunity, this step also enables pilgrims to complete all travel documents more calmly. In addition to documents and vaccinations, prospective pilgrims also need to pay attention to other preparations such as travel insurance membership, attending Umrah rituals (manasik), settling travel costs according to the organiser’s provisions, and maintaining physical fitness through regular light exercise. By preparing all requirements early, prospective pilgrims can perform the Umrah pilgrimage more comfortably and focus on worship while in the Holy Land.
