UMPR Faculty of Agriculture to be Implementing Partner for FOLU Net Sink 2030
Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the Muhammadiyah University of Palangkaraya (UMPR) has been officially appointed as an implementing partner in the implementation of Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 Norway’s Contribution Phase 2 and 3, Period III.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at UMPR, Dr. Nanang Hanafi, in Palangka Raya, Thursday, said that the appointment was based on the Decree of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Forestry Number 19 of 2026 issued by the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia.
“This is a form of recognition of UMPR’s academic capacity, technical experience, and commitment to supporting the low-carbon development agenda in the forestry and land-use sectors,” he said.
He added that the appointment was announced at the signing of the FOLU Net Sink 2030 cooperation agreement held in Jakarta and attended by ministry officials, international development partners, and representatives of implementing agencies and institutions.
“This program is an important part of Indonesia’s contribution to controlling global climate change,” said Dr. Nanang.
He said that as an implementing partner, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at UMPR will play a role in implementing various technical activities in the field, including strengthening community capacity, assisting in sustainable forest and land management, land rehabilitation, and supporting efforts to prevent and control forest and land fires.
This role also includes strengthening applied research, preparing science-based recommendations, and developing community empowerment models that are adaptive to the characteristics of peat and tropical forest ecosystems in Central Kalimantan.
UMPR’s involvement in this program reflects the real implementation of the tri dharma of universities, especially in the aspects of research and community service that have a direct impact on regional development. With competent lecturers in the field of forestry such as silviculture, forest management, and conservation.
“The faculty is ready to support the national target of reducing emissions while improving the welfare of communities around forest areas,” he said.
“UMPR is ready to contribute actively in supporting the achievement of the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target through an academic approach, applied research, and multi-party collaboration involving local governments, communities, and the business world,” he said.
The Rector of UMPR added that the participation of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at UMPR as an implementing partner also strengthens the position of the university as a strategic partner of the government in sustainable forest management.
In addition to contributing to the national target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, this program is expected to strengthen sustainable development in Central Kalimantan through improving human resource capacity, managing natural resources based on science and technology, and empowering community-based forestry and agroforestry economies.
“With a spirit of collaboration and a commitment to sustainable development, UMPR reaffirms its role as a higher education institution that not only produces quality graduates but also provides solutions to environmental challenges and climate change at the regional and national levels,” he said.
