Ummat Party Protests Disappearance of Amien Rais Video on Prabowo-Teddy Affair

Secretary of the Shura Council of the Central Executive Board of the Ummat Party, Ansufri Idrus Sambo, has questioned the disappearance of an opinion video by Ummat Party Shura Council Chairman Amien Rais from his personal YouTube account. In the video, Amien Rais accused President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya of having a relationship that exceeds professional boundaries. “Yes, they can (take down Amien Rais’s video) because they have the power to do so,” Sambo said during the Ummat Party’s National Consultation in Yogyakarta on Saturday night, 2 May 2026. Sambo also regretted that, as a democratic country, the government seems allergic to criticism voiced by those in power. “We are also puzzled; if it’s something like this (criticism), the response is very quick. What about online gambling? Many untrue contents are left alone, so it’s not fair,” he said. Sambo defended Amien Rais, whose protests against those in power are often expressed in straightforward and open language. That statement, he said, has become Amien Rais’s style of protest when he is concerned about something amiss in the government. Following the disappearance of Amien Rais’s video, the Ummat Party plans to file a protest with the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation or Komdigi. “We will raise objections about that, why only this video was taken down,” he said. According to him, Amien Rais’s allegations regarding the Prabowo-Teddy relationship are already like an open secret, with many parties revealing it, especially on social media or social media. “Many things, if we look at it, the story (Prabowo-Teddy) has been circulating on social media for quite a while, why is this one only being acted upon now,” he stated. “Please search on Google, open YouTube, (the Prabowo-Teddy relationship) has spread as an open secret.” The Ummat Party is not intimidated if Amien Rais’s video is legally pursued by Komdigi. “If it wants to enter the legal realm, we will face it legally as well,” he said. Sambo believes that a senior politician like Amien Rais has reasons and basis for opining on the Prabowo-Teddy relationship. “There must be a basis for everything. Pak Amien might have looked at it overall, the series of events like birthdays (Teddy) and so on that have been widely shared on social media,” he said. “Thus, Pak Amien dares to voice it loudly and straightforwardly; that’s his type.” Sambo explained that the removal of the video provided no prior notification to either Amien Rais or the Ummat Party. “So the video was directly taken down, with no notification to us at all,” Sambo said. When asked if the video would be re-uploaded after being taken down from the YouTube channel, Sambo responded diplomatically. “We’ll see the situation later,” he said. Meanwhile, Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid previously stated that the statement video by Ummat Party Shura Council Chairman Amien Rais, which implicates President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, contains defamatory narratives and hate speech. “The narrative built is an attempt to demean the dignity of the country’s highest leaders, lacks factual basis, and is part of an effort to provoke public unrest,” Meutya Hafid said in a written statement on Friday, 1 May 2026. For Meutya, this has the potential to divide the nation. She emphasised that digital democratic space is a space for exchanging ideas, not for producing hate content that attacks anyone’s dignity.
