UMJ Strengthens International Networks at Global Sustainable Development Congress
The Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) was held this year at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang, from 22 to 25 June 2026. Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) participated in the event alongside 28 other excellently accredited Muhammadiyah higher education institutions (PTMA) under the auspices of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research and Development (Diklitbang).
The international forum was attended by various higher education institutions from a number of countries, contributing to discussions and collaboration on sustainable development. UMJ, together with the Diklitbang Council, engaged in interactive communication to share information and build networks with other universities and agencies. By attending this forum, UMJ also took part in the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking activities, which were part of the event.
Vice Rector III of UMJ for Cooperation and Quality Assurance, Prof Dr Tria Astika Endah Permatasari, MKM, stated that participating in this activity was part of efforts to enhance the university’s global reputation. ‘UMJ’s participation in the GSDC is part of our effort to boost global standing at the international level. Through this regular forum organised by Times Higher Education, we aim to position UMJ at a higher level whilst making a globally impactful and sustainable contribution,’ she said in a statement on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
Tria further explained that at the forum, UMJ introduced the Global Reputation Partner (MR-Go), which encompasses the university’s various strengths, not only in education and community service but also innovations produced by lecturers, academics, and students as UMJ’s flagship products. Tria expressed hope that involvement in the GSDC could become part of UMJ’s contribution to the world, particularly in realising global cooperation between universities worldwide.
‘To maximise the outcomes of this activity, all faculties and postgraduate schools were involved by assigning four to five representatives from each unit. We are targeting at least 100 strategic partners to be secured through UMJ’s participation in this event,’ she added.
Meanwhile, Head of the Partnership and Global Reputation Office, Miftahul Ulum, S.IP., MPS., M.Sc, Ph.D, added that this was an effort to enhance cooperation networks at the global level. ‘We are participating in the GSDC alongside 28 other Muhammadiyah universities. UMJ is present at this forum because it is a global-scale event that opens up many opportunities to expand networks and build international collaboration,’ he said.
Miftahul noted that many potential collaborations could be developed through this event. Various institutional representatives from different countries attended the forum, making it an excellent opportunity for UMJ to strengthen international partnerships. ‘The hope is that all efforts made at this forum can contribute to enhancing the global reputation of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta at the international level,’ he concluded.
