Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) has established a partnership with the Asia Middle East Center for Research and Dialogue (AMEC) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The ceremony took place in the Rector’s Room of the Muhammadiyah Civilization Center at UMJ on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

UMJ Vice Rector III, Prof Dr Tria Astika Endah Permatasari, MKM, stated that the partnership represents a mutually beneficial arrangement for both institutions. The collaboration is aimed at strengthening the quality of education and impactful research. “This cooperation focuses on building a partnership that provides mutual benefits for both institutions. Its implementation includes the development of joint academic and research programmes, the exchange of scientific publications, the organisation of international conferences, and various other academic activities,” she said.

Tria explained that collaboration between UMJ and AMEC has actually been ongoing for several years. She noted that the signing of the MoU provides an official framework that will broaden the scope of implementation in the future. “We are committed to promptly realising this cooperation, both in short-term and long-term programmes, so that it can sustainably enhance the global reputation of both institutions,” she explained. In the near future, a collaborative research book will be published, which is expected to serve as a reference for academics, stakeholders, and the public.

AMEC Director, Dr Muslim Imran, welcomed the formalisation of the partnership. He believes both institutions have significant opportunities to strengthen academic ties through the exchange of knowledge, experience, and international collaboration. “We have signed an MoU to develop the relationship between AMEC and UMJ. I believe there is excellent scope to build cooperation and exchange views and experiences,” he said. Muslim also expressed hope that the collaboration would be realised through various academic activities that benefit both parties. “We hope that through the discussions, conferences, and academic activities we will organise together, UMJ can make a positive contribution. We also wish to learn from the experiences of UMJ and Indonesia in developing international academic cooperation,” he concluded. This partnership strengthens UMJ’s international network while opening up broader opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and scientific publications. The collaboration also encourages UMJ to make a tangible contribution to the development of science on a global scale.
