UMJ Selects 1,400 International Applicants from 44 Countries

New student admissions for the 2026 academic year at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) have drawn strong enthusiasm from international applicants. A total of 1,400 prospective students from 44 countries are undergoing the selection process to join the UMJ academic community. All applicants will pass through two selection stages: administrative screening and an interview. From the entire pool of participants, UMJ will select the 40 best international students to continue their studies across various available programmes. The quota consists of 30 Master’s programme students and 10 Bachelor’s programme students. The Master’s programme is prioritised because it is considered capable of accelerating academic achievement through internationally reputable scientific publications, expanding research collaboration with various countries, and strengthening UMJ’s academic reputation at the global level. UMJ Vice Rector III, Tria Atika Endah Permatasari, stated this is a proud achievement as well as a significant mandate for UMJ. She said it demonstrates that the trust of prospective students from 44 countries is proof that UMJ’s reputation is increasingly recognised internationally. ‘This achievement motivates us to continuously improve the quality of both academic and non-academic services to meet the expectations of students from diverse cultural backgrounds,’ she said. Tria explained that this success is the result of various strategies implemented sustainably. First, UMJ strengthened international cooperation with various universities, educational institutions, and organisations in different countries. The second strategy involved increasing UMJ’s visibility through digital promotion, social media, international webinars, and participation in global education exhibitions. The third strategy was developing international programmes, including English-medium classes, student exchanges, and research collaborations. The fourth strategy involved providing friendly services for international students, from the admissions process and mentoring to campus life adaptation. The final strategy emphasised UMJ’s excellence as a higher education institution that integrates academic quality, progressive Islamic values, and concern for global issues. Tria also explained UMJ’s strategic steps to strengthen internationalisation in the future. According to her, UMJ will continue to expand its partnership network with educational institutions in various regions of the world to enhance academic collaboration and broaden its international reach. In addition, UMJ will add more study programmes with international appeal and increase the number of English-taught courses. The language centre will also be optimised to support the readiness of students and the academic community in facing a global educational environment. In the academic field, UMJ is committed to developing various international programmes, such as dual degrees, joint research, student exchanges, and summer courses. The campus will also leverage international alumni as promotional ambassadors for UMJ in their home countries. Furthermore, UMJ will improve the quality of services for international students through a digital-based system. This step aims to simplify the registration process and academic services to make them more efficient and convenient. All these efforts are carried out in line with strengthening UMJ’s branding as a superior, impactful, inclusive, and globally oriented university. ‘We hope that the presence of international students will not only enhance UMJ’s global reputation but also create an academic environment that is increasingly multicultural and rich in the exchange of knowledge, experience, and culture,’ she said. Tria said that interaction between Indonesian students and students from various countries will broaden global perspectives, strengthen tolerance, and enhance graduate competencies so they can compete at the international level. She hopes that international students can become ambassadors for UMJ in their respective countries, so that more young people from various nations across continents will recognise and choose UMJ as a higher education destination. ‘God willing, UMJ will continue to be committed to becoming a university that is excellent, globally competitive, and makes a real contribution to the progress of the nation and world civilisation through education, research, and community service,’ said Tria.
