UMJ Islamic Economics Students Begin Collective Internship at BAZNAS RI
Fifteen students from the Islamic Economics Study Programme at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (FEB UMJ), have begun a collective internship programme at the National Zakat Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI). The welcoming ceremony for the interns was held on Thursday (23/07/2026) in the Auditorium on the fifth floor of the BAZNAS RI building in Jakarta.
The event was attended by BAZNAS RI Deputy I Arifin Purwakananta, Head of the Human Resources Planning and Strategy Division Randi Swandaru, and the heads of divisions within BAZNAS RI Deputy I. From Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, the Head of the Islamic Economics Study Programme at FEB UMJ, Dr Adi Mansah, was also present.
In his remarks, BAZNAS RI Deputy I Arifin Purwakananta expressed appreciation for the trust placed in BAZNAS RI as the partner implementing the FEB UMJ student internship programme. He also offered guidance and motivation to the students, encouraging them to use the opportunity as a means of learning while developing professional competence in zakat management.
“During the internship, the students will be placed in several strategic divisions, including the Fundraising, Operations and HR Division, and the Promotion and Marketing Division. We hope that through these placements, students can gain real experience of national zakat governance,” he said.
Arifin also expressed hope that the partnership between the Islamic Economics Study Programme at FEB UMJ and BAZNAS RI would continue and further strengthen synergy in developing human resources in the field of Islamic economics.
“We hope this cooperation will continue and that an even stronger synergy will be built between the Islamic Economics Study Programme at FEB UMJ and BAZNAS RI in the future. Welcome aboard, happy learning, and we hope you feel at home during your internship at BAZNAS RI,” he said.
Adi Mansah, Head of the Islamic Economics Study Programme at FEB UMJ, conveyed his appreciation and gratitude to the entire leadership of BAZNAS RI for the warm welcome extended to FEB UMJ students. He expressed hope that the internship programme would serve not only as a learning platform but also as a means of shaping a young generation with competence, integrity, and leadership in the development of Indonesia’s sharia economy and finance.
“We hope our students feel comfortable and enthusiastic throughout their internship at BAZNAS RI. May this experience serve as a valuable asset so that in future they can become cadres and leaders in developing the Islamic economy, particularly within BAZNAS RI. We also thank all supervising lecturers who have accompanied the students, so that the knowledge imparted can bring wide-ranging benefits,” he said.
The collective internship programme is part of the implementation of cooperation between FEB UMJ and BAZNAS RI in support of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, particularly through strengthening student competencies via direct learning experience in the workplace.
Through the programme, students are expected to gain a more comprehensive understanding of zakat governance, institutional management, fundraising, marketing, and human resource management at a national zakat institution.
The welcoming ceremony concluded with a symbolic handover of the students from the Islamic Economics Study Programme at FEB UMJ to BAZNAS RI, followed by technical briefings from each division head who will serve as the students’ supervisors during the internship period.
The internship programme is hoped to become a beneficial learning platform for students while strengthening the contribution of academia in supporting the development of professional, transparent, and socially impactful national zakat governance.
