The Informatics Study Program at FT UMJ organised a Coding and Artificial Intelligence workshop to equip teachers for the AI era. The event, attended by teachers from Muhammadiyah high schools and the Indonesian Artificial Intelligence Smart Community (KOPIKA), took place on Monday, 25 May 2026.

Titled ‘Transforming Excellent Teachers through Technology Adaptation and Innovative Learning’, the workshop aimed to enhance educators’ capabilities in navigating digital technology and artificial intelligence advancements within the education sector.

Special Adviser to the Minister for Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence at the Indonesian Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Muhammad Muchlas Rowi, praised the workshop organised by UMJ’s Informatics Department. He stated that enhancing teachers’ competencies requires collaboration from multiple parties, including higher education institutions.

‘I urge UMJ to remain actively involved, and if possible, establish partner schools. The Faculty of Engineering at UMJ has strong relationships and expertise in learning development, enabling it to make broader contributions to education,’ he said.

Muchlas viewed the workshop as part of UMJ’s efforts to enhance teachers’ capabilities, particularly in equipping them with skills relevant to future needs. He expressed hope that the content would continue to align with the national curriculum and evolving educational requirements.

He noted that current coding and education digitalisation policies include AI for Learning, which uses artificial intelligence to create more adaptive, contextual, and engaging learning experiences for students.

‘AI does not always produce accurate information, so its use still requires critical thinking and verification skills,’ he added.

Preserving Humanistic Values

FT UMJ Dean Irfan Purnawan said AI workshops have been held multiple times and are important for educators to attend. He stated that the key aspect of AI development is not just technological proficiency but also preserving humanistic values amid rapid technological advancement.

‘Rapidly advancing technology cannot replace ethics and moral character. These values cannot be learned solely through YouTube or AI but must be cultivated through humanistic approaches created by educators,’ he added.

He added that AI can be used to guide students in learning evolving fields of knowledge. Through informatics, educators are expected to help preserve the nation’s youth with strong moral character and integrity.

Informatics Study Program Head Jumail stated the event is part of preparations for the AI era. He thanked attendees and hoped the workshop would proceed smoothly and provide useful knowledge.

Event Chairman Hendra said this is a continuation of last year’s coding and AI training, which targeted primary to high school teachers across regions including Jakarta, Central Java, Tangerang, and Sukabumi.

‘Last year’s training focused on deep learning aspects of coding and AI, while this workshop centres on data security literacy. We hope it will educate teachers on the importance of protecting personal data, which is often shared unintentionally,’ Hendra said.

The workshop covered topics including the use of ChatGPT in lesson planning and information system security in PID usage.
