UMJ 2026 Campus Orientation Officially Opens, Welcoming 4,100 New Students
The Campus Life Introduction for New Students (PKKMB) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) for the year 2026 officially opened on Monday (21/9/2026). Themed “Green and Sustainable Global Campus”, the event took place at the KH Ahmad Basyir Auditorium, Cendekia Building, UMJ.
The opening of PKKMB UMJ began with artistic performances, including songs and dances presented by UMJ students. These performances were part of the welcoming festivities for new students prior to the main opening ceremony.
For the 2026 PKKMB implementation, UMJ is welcoming 4,100 new students, including 67 international students from various countries, including Bangladesh, Rwanda, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Nigeria, Egypt, Tajikistan, Togo, Afghanistan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Palestine, Myanmar, Gambia, Mali, Malawi, and Yemen.
In his address, the Rector of UMJ, Ma’mun Murod, welcomed the new students to the UMJ environment, noting that it is the oldest Muhammadiyah university in Indonesia. He reminded students to make the most of their university years by participating in various activities that support self-development.
“You should be proud to study at the oldest Muhammadiyah university, an excellent university, and a Muhammadiyah university located in the capital,” he said.
The Rector of UMJ also advised students not to focus solely on academic activities but to actively develop their skills through various extracurricular activities. He suggested that students allocate 60 per cent of their time to lectures and 40 per cent to other activities, while medical students are encouraged to allocate 80 per cent of their time to their studies.
“Do not become ‘butterfly’ students—those who only go to class and then go straight home. Utilise your time to learn extensively on campus and join various organisations and student activity units (UKM) available on campus,” he urged.
The opening ceremony continued with the presentation of UMJ jackets by the Rector and Deans to the Minister of Villages and Regional Development and his officials. The event proceeded with the symbolic opening of PKKMB and the distribution of alma mater jackets to the new students.
During the event, the Minister of Villages and Regional Development, Yandri Susermanto, invited the new UMJ students to possess a future-oriented mindset and not to succumb easily to circumstances. He also emphasised the importance of sincerity in life, regardless of family background or economic condition.
“Never regret where we were born, and never regret who our parents are, but regret it if we live without earnestness,” he stated.
The Minister of Villages and Regional Development also reminded students not to be fixated solely on their courses, but to use the campus environment as a space for character building. According to him, students need the courage to speak, act, and organise as part of the self-development process.
“Regardless of which faculty you are from, do not be limited by your subjects; the subjects are mandatory, but it is the environment that shapes us,” he said.
He further encouraged students to seize opportunities and possess broader ambitions, including becoming entrepreneurs after completing their education. He noted that students should have the spirit to continuously strive and not limit themselves to merely seeking employment.
“As a Minister, I invite you all to become great individuals. Do not just think about applying for jobs; starting now, you can become entrepreneurs,” he added.
In addition to the speeches, the opening of PKKMB UMJ included the announcement of PKKMB challenges. These activities are part of the series of events intended to encourage active participation from new students throughout the orientation period.
The implementation of PKKMB UMJ 2026 is supported by several parties, including Grab, YOUC1000, Light+ by Wardah, and Kopi Gajah. This support is part of the series of events welcoming new students for the 2026 academic year.
Also in attendance were the Minister of Villages and Regional Development and his officials, the Rector of UMJ, Vice-Rectors, Directors and Deputy Directors of Postgraduate Studies, Deans and Deputy Deans of faculties, and the UMJ academic community.
