Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI) is strengthening the role of the Association of Indonesian Private Universities (Aptisi) in developing higher education that has an impact on society. UMI Rector Prof Dr Hambali Thalib stated in Makassar on Tuesday that he believes collaboration is the key to advancing higher education. According to Prof Hambali, UMI is currently undertaking various transformations, ranging from strengthening governance and digital transformation through UMI connection, to developing a research culture, internationalising the campus, and enhancing academic quality. He said this aligns with the spirit of collaboration continuously promoted by Aptisi and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek). Mansyur Ramly, Chairman of the UMI Waqf Foundation Board, assessed that private universities are now required to be increasingly adaptive to change and able to provide governance that is robust and relevant to the needs of the times. According to him, private universities hold a very strategic position in expanding access to quality higher education for the Indonesian people. “Improving academic quality, adaptive governance, strengthening cooperation networks, and the ability to read changes are a shared agenda that must be continuously reinforced by all private universities in Indonesia,” he said.
