The need to enhance the competencies of vocational teachers continues to grow in line with changes in industry and technology. Universities are beginning to promote the strengthening of teachers’ capacities through international collaborations.

Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) together with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) held a training session for 60 accounting teachers from vocational high schools across Tangerang City at the UMB campus in West Jakarta on Friday (24/4/2026). The event involved teachers who are members of the Tangerang City Accounting MGMP.

This PKM activity was led by a team of lecturers from the Accounting Department of UMB’s Faculty of Economics and Business, assisted by S1 Accounting students. The training discussed global issues such as taxation, auditing, green accounting, and the utilisation of artificial intelligence in research.

The event was packaged in the form of workshops and case discussions to strengthen practical understanding. “International collaborations like this bring the global perspectives that are very much needed in vocational accounting education, so that teachers can equip students with competencies relevant to the current business and industrial world,” said Deputy Dean, School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Abdul Hadi Zulkafi.

The materials provided covered the preparation of financial reports based on SAK EMKM, the latest tax regulations, and applicable audit concepts. Participants also received an introduction to sustainable accounting practices and action research based on AI.

The organisers hope that this training will strengthen the role of teachers in preparing students to face the working world and professional certifications. The event also serves as a space for sharing experiences among teachers in the MGMP community.
