Jakarta — The Rector of Universitas Mercu Buana, Prof. Andi Adriansyah, has stressed the importance of universities providing a space where students can grow and explore their potential in depth. ‘Each student has different potential. The campus must provide a stage for that potential to grow and develop optimally. No talent should be deemed insignificant. No potential should be left without direction,’ Andi said in a formal statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

At the opening of the second semester for the 2025-2026 academic year for bachelor’s, professional, and master’s programmes in Jakarta, on Saturday (7 March), Andi said campuses should provide various outlets for students’ interests and talents.

He advances this mission through student activity units in the fields of research, arts, sport, entrepreneurship, and leadership, in line with the Kampus Berdampak programme devised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

With the support of facilities, mentoring of student organisations, and networked collaborations with various parties, the campus strives to create an environment that enables students to learn, experiment, and contribute to society.

Additionally, he said campuses should not only be spaces for formal classroom learning, but also spaces for holistic development of student potential. This aligns with the spirit of the Kampus Berdampak programme, which emphasises the important role of higher education in creating innovations and solutions to societal issues.

In this framework, student activities are seen as a learning space capable of giving birth to creative ideas as well as tangible contributions.

Through this approach, he hopes graduates will not only be academically competent but also have social awareness, creativity, and leadership capacity that can make a broad impact in society.
