Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) has deployed students from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Volunteer Corps to assist in the evacuation process of the victims from the Virgo Transport 8 ship, who have arrived at Trisakti Port, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

“Our students have been at the port since Sunday (3/9). They remain on standby to join other volunteers,” said the Rector of ULM, Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri, in Banjarmasin on Wednesday.

During the activities at the port, the Rector stated that members of the ULM PMI Unit Volunteer Corps are involved in first aid, victim evacuation, and victim data collection.

This assistance is provided as part of a collective effort to manage and evacuate victims during emergency conditions.

The involvement of the Ulam PMI Unit Volunteer Corps in the Virgo Ship SAR operation serves as a tangible form of student care and contribution to humanitarian activities.

Hafiz Abdillah, a member of the ULM PMI Unit Volunteer Corps, stated that the corps’ involvement in the operation is part of the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian work.

The ULM PMI Unit Volunteer Corps operates in the humanitarian sector, particularly regarding natural and non-natural disasters.

“Therefore, when activities like this arise, we assist according to our capabilities and the directions provided by the field teams,” said the student from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at ULM.

Hafiz explained that during implementation, members first follow instructions from the SAR operation leader regarding the victim evacuation workflow.

After receiving instructions, members then assist in the process of evacuating victims from the ship to a temporary medical room.

In addition to Hafiz, several members of the ULM PMI Unit Volunteer Corps involved in the activity include Fatimah (FKIP), Mastiah (FISIP), Rusdiana Noor (Faculty of Law), and Winda Rossita Dewi (Faculty of Law).

During field operations, four students are assisting in the handling and evacuation of victims according to their assigned duties.
