Ulin Regional Hospital Deploys Medical Team to Handle Virgo Ship Passengers
Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The Ulin Regional General Hospital (RSUD Ulin) in Banjarmasin has placed a medical team on standby to treat passengers from the Virgo Transport 8 vessel, which recently lost contact in the Masalembo waters of the Java Sea.
The President Director of RSUD Ulin Banjarmising, Dr Among Wibowo, stated in Banjarmasin on Sunday that the hospital has prepared 13 surgeons and various healthcare professionals to strengthen the treatment of passengers who will be referred to several hospitals in Banjarmasin.
“We have placed 13 surgeons and healthcare workers on standby to anticipate the arrival of victims at Trisakti Port,” said Among.
He noted that readiness extends beyond medical services for those requiring treatment; it also includes the preparedness of the RSUD Ulin Emergency Department (IGD) to receive patients in conditions requiring immediate intervention.
He added that the hospital is also preparing the mortuary along with a forensic team as an anticipatory measure in the event that any fatalities are brought to RSUD Ulin for identification and further processing.
“We are also preparing the Emergency Department and the mortuary, including a forensic team, so that all conditions of the victims can be handled according to medical needs and applicable procedures,” he said.
Among explained that 69 victims from the sunken ship, who were successfully evacuated by vessels near the scene, are currently en route to Trisakti Port, Banjarmasin. Consequently, the hospital must prepare for the possibility of a large number of victims arriving in close succession.
This situation necessitates a distribution pattern across several hospitals in Banjarmasin to prevent overcrowding at a single healthcare facility and to ensure that victims receive care according to their level of urgency.
“For victims sent to RSUD Ulin, we are in a position to provide medical services and care according to the specific condition of each individual,” he said.
This inter-hospital readiness is expected to accelerate the process of triage, evacuation, and treatment, ensuring that patients in critical condition can receive immediate action while others are managed according to the needs and capacity of available healthcare facilities.
