Ukrainian Drone Attacks Hit Russian Oil Refinery, Kyiv and Odesa Ablaze

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is intensifying following a series of unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) attacks reported to have hit several strategic facilities in both countries overnight. These attacks targeted energy infrastructure in Russia as well as residential areas in Ukraine, resulting in significant damage and casualties.

In the Russian region, Ukrainian drone attacks reportedly targeted energy facilities and electrical infrastructure. The Governor of Yaroslavl, Mikhail Yevrayev, confirmed that air defence systems successfully shot down 65 drones. However, drone debris still caused a fire at a local oil refinery.

Beyond industrial facilities, the impact of the attacks was also felt by civilians in Yaroslavl, where apartment windows were shattered and several vehicles were damaged by falling drone debris. The Governor of Rostov, Yury Slyusar, added that damage to transformer substations in his region has disrupted the electricity supply for thousands of residents. Nevertheless, Russian authorities stated there were no fatalities in this series of drone attacks.

At almost the same time, Russia launched air strikes on Ukrainian territory. The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, reported that the attacks injured at least 16 people, nine of whom had to be rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Even more tragic conditions were reported in Odesa. A 19-storey apartment building was targeted, with severe damage occurring on floors 14 to 16. Local authorities confirmed fatalities in the incident, although the exact number is still being processed.

Both Russia and Ukraine continue to increase the intensity of air attacks using unmanned systems. This escalation indicates that the war has shifted towards the destruction of strategic facilities that directly impact the lives of civilians in both countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that his side has launched attacks against oil infrastructure near St. Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city.
