Moscow (ANTARA) - The UK government has announced that it will equip its Typhoon fighter jets deployed in the Middle East with new anti-drone systems.

“British citizens and regional partners will be better protected from drone attacks as the Royal Air Force (RAF) deploys a new, low-cost anti-drone weapon in operations in the Middle East,” the UK government said in a statement.

The government added that the new Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) will be installed on RAF Typhoon fighter jets so that they can destroy targets accurately and at a much lower cost than the missiles currently used.

It was mentioned that less than two months passed between the testing of the system and its deployment.

In April, the iPaper publication reported, citing sources, that British officials were concerned about the possibility of an Iranian attack on joint British-American bases and British embassies in the Middle East, which are used to coordinate military operations with the US, if conflict escalates.

Earlier in March, the UK’s Akrotiri base in Cyprus was hit by a drone attack, which the UK Ministry of Defence said likely originated from Lebanon or Iraq.
