UK, RP team up against child sex
MANILA (Reuter): A team of British detectives specializing in
cases of child sex abuse said yesterday they had established
information links with Philippine police to strengthen the fight
against pedophiles.
Since last year, when the Philippines toughened its drive
against pedophiles, one Briton has been convicted and jailed on
charges of sexually abusing children.
Detective Superintendent Bryan Drew of Britain's National
Criminal Intelligence Service said the British team had made
contact with officers of the Philippine National Police and the
country's premier law enforcing agency, the National Bureau of
Investigation. The contacts would help the two countries to
exchange information on British pedophiles visiting the
Philippines, he said.
Britain has recently introduced a bill in parliament to enable
prosecution of Britons charged with committing child sex crimes
abroad. The bill is awaiting approval.
