UK offers scholarship

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian citizens are invited to take part in
a scholarship program sponsored by the British government and a
brewing company to study for a Master's degree at the University
of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

Indria from PT Gitaswara Indonesia, sole distributors of the
Guiness brewing products, announced on Saturday that the
successful candidate will be able to choose one of eight
alternative courses of study.

They include communication studies, development studies,
economic, finance, industrial and labor studies, modern
international studies, politics of international resources and
development and sociology, Indria said.

The one-year degree course will start in September next year.

"We believe we have a responsibility to the communities and
countries in which our business operates," said Brendan O'Neil,
managing director of Guiness Brewing Worldwide.

According to Indria, this is the sixth scholarship sponsored
jointly by UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Guiness for
Indonesians. (bsr)
