UK interfaith envoy to visit RI

JAKARTA: John Battle, a member of the British Parliament and the Prime Minister's special envoy for interfaith dialog is scheduled to visit Indonesia with a delegation of five local politicians from northern England on Sunday for a six-day stay.

The six members of the delegation represent predominantly Muslim communities in Leeds and Bradford and are themselves Muslim. They will join Battle in visits to Jakarta, Makassar and Bogor, the British Embassy said in a statement on Friday.

The group will meet members of the local legislative councils and local civic and religious leaders to discuss issues of local political accountability and transparency and the role of constituents.

In Makassar, Battle and British Ambassador to Indonesia Richard Gozney will take part in a radio talk show as well. -- JP
