The UK government is adamant that every meeting between King Charles III and US President Donald Trump in Washington, USA, must take place without cameras, as reported by The Guardian. The British newspaper stated that this is to avoid a similar incident to the one in February 2025, when Trump publicly reprimanded Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to the White House.

Previously, on 28 February 2025, Trump criticised Zelensky during their meeting at the White House to sign an agreement on the joint development of Ukrainian mineral resources.

US Vice President J.D. Vance also described Zelensky as an “ungrateful Democratic Party campaigner” when the Ukrainian leader tried to justify his actions, blamed Russia, and warned that the US would feel the consequences of the conflict despite its geographical separation.

The White House has agreed that every meeting between King Charles III and Trump will take place without cameras, as reported by the newspaper on Monday (27/4/2026).

Sources involved in the visit told The Guardian that the British king will appear in front of cameras at the beginning of his main bilateral meeting with Trump on Tuesday, but discussions on substantive issues will not be recorded.
