UK Injects £130 Million to Develop Zero-Emission Vehicles

The United Kingdom announced nearly £130 million in funding on Monday to accelerate the development of zero-emission vehicle technologies, combining almost £65 million in government support with industry investment. Nearly £50 million of the government funding will be channelled to car manufacturers and research partners to develop and scale up zero-emission technologies. An additional £17 million will support nine connected and automated mobility projects involving technologies such as sensors, brake-by-wire systems, and artificial intelligence simulations. “The UK created the modern automotive industry, and we are determined to ensure the next generation of vehicles is also designed and made here,” said Industry Minister Blair McDougall in a statement. The UK plans to end the sale of new purely petrol or diesel cars by 2030, while all new cars must be zero-emission by 2035.
