Moscow (ANTARA) - UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has addressed the concept of ‘cancel culture’ within foreign policy, calling for continued communication with several nations, including China and India.

“I feel there is an approach from some other parties in the UK that resembles cancel culture in foreign policy, namely a refusal to speak with other countries,” Cooper stated in an interview with The Sun newspaper, commenting on her recent visits to China and India.

“I think that approach is mistaken. It is a very poor approach to foreign relations, and does not represent the interests of the United Kingdom,” she said.

Cooper noted that the Conservative Party and the right-wing Reform UK party oppose dialogue with China. Meanwhile, the Green Party has criticised close ties with India, and the Liberal Democrats opposed King Charles III’s visit to the United States.

In early June, during her visit to China, Cooper discussed the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the situation in Ukraine with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

She noted that London needs to continue maintaining communication with Beijing while remaining steadfast in the values held by the United Kingdom.
