UK Envoy: HMS Tamar Visit Proof of Strengthening RI-UK Ties
Jakarta (ANTARA) - British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, stated that the visit of the Royal Navy patrol vessel HMS Tamar is tangible proof of the increasingly strong maritime relationship between Indonesia and the United Kingdom. In his remarks at the welcoming ceremony for HMS Tamar in Jakarta on Wednesday, Jermey said the visit provides an opportunity for sailors and military personnel to strengthen ties. “I am confident that HMS Tamar’s visit will strengthen the bonds of friendship between Indonesia and the United Kingdom and create new opportunities for cooperation in the years to come,” Jermey said. On the same occasion, HMS Tamar’s Commanding Officer, Commander Thomas Lindsey, said the ship’s visit to Jakarta demonstrates the Royal Navy’s commitment to regional security and reflects the importance of the entire Indo-Pacific region. “As cooperation grows in this region, we recognise that security is important not only for safety but also for economic prosperity and all the positive aspects it brings to both our countries,” Lindsey said. Lindsey added that the crew of HMS Tamar will participate in sports and cultural activities, as well as explore the city during their visit to Jakarta, which will last until 20 June. “I look forward to exploring Jakarta with you,” he said. Meanwhile, Deputy Commander of the Indonesian Navy’s Third Fleet Command, Brigadier General (Mar) Dian Suryansyah, who read remarks on behalf of Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Uki Prasetia, expressed appreciation for HMS Tamar’s visit to Jakarta. He said the visit is a valuable opportunity to strengthen professional relations and friendship between the Indonesian and British navies, as well as to enhance defence cooperation. He also mentioned that a series of activities had been arranged with the British Embassy, including sampling Jakarta’s culinary offerings in conjunction with the city’s 499th anniversary celebrations. The Royal Navy patrol vessel HMS Tamar is visiting Jakarta from 17 to 20 June 2026. The visit underscores the UK’s long-term commitment to the Indo-Pacific region and its role as a partner in supporting regional stability, maritime security, and international cooperation.
