UK at Risk of Dissolution as Three Nations Prepare to Declare Independence from Britain

The leaders of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are reported to be meeting this Monday (1/14/2026) in Cardiff, Wales. The three parties intend to sign a declaration aimed at achieving independence from England and dissolving the United Kingdom.

Initial reports were published by The Telegraph on Sunday, as also cited by The Times of Israel. The meeting takes place just one day after US President Donald Trump announced his support for Irish reunification.

According to The Telegraph, the declaration will assert the right of these three nations, alongside England, to hold independence referendums. If the populations support the move, they will secede from the United Kingdom.

The declaration is expected to be signed by Scottish First Minister John Swinney, Welsh First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth, and Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O’Neill. Subsequently, Scotland and Wales will apply to join the European Union (EU) as new members, while Northern Ireland will seek to join through unification with the Republic of Ireland, which is already a member.

This phenomenon occurs as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are simultaneously governed, either wholly or partially, by pro-independence parties. Scotland is currently led by the Scottish National Party (SNP), Wales by Plaid Cymru, while Northern Ireland is governed by the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and the Irish Republican party, Sinn Féin.

Regarding comments from Trump, the US President is reportedly enthusiastic about these developments. Specifically regarding Ireland, he expressed support for Irish unification during a visit to Dublin last Saturday.

“We have Northern Ireland and we have Ireland, and I think one of the most natural things of all time is to unite the two,” Trump told reporters during a visit to a golf tournament at one of his resorts, reiterating his previous comments.

Trump also briefly alluded to Scotland, though he declined to elaborate. “You ask about Scotland. That is something I haven’t spoken about. I will save that for another day,” added Trump, who is known to possess a golf resort in the region.
