UK and Five Western Nations Sanction Israel Over Settler Violence

The British government, alongside five other Western nations, has imposed coordinated sanctions on individuals and organisations accused of supporting Israeli settler violence in the West Bank, while simultaneously adding humanitarian aid for Palestine. The UK Foreign Ministry stated on Tuesday (9/6) that London would sanction six entities and one individual suspected of funding, facilitating, or directly engaging in acts of violence. According to the statement, France, Canada, and Norway announced new sanctions together with the UK on Tuesday, whilst Australia and New Zealand had previously announced similar coordinated measures the week before. The UK’s latest sanctions target networks accused of providing funding, logistical support, and various resources for Israeli settler farms and outposts in the West Bank. Among those listed is the Israel Agricultural Association, which the British government says provides financial and organisational support to settler farms and outposts. Ahavat Gilad was also sanctioned for allegedly channelling donations to several of these outposts. British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper stressed that settlement expansion and acts of violence against Palestinians constitute violations of international law that threaten the prospects for peace in the region. The sanctions list also includes Ari Yshag, who is accused of fundraising for outposts linked to intimidation and violence. Organisations Artzenu and Shivat Zion Lerigvey Admata were also targeted for allegedly providing funding and resources for settler activities in occupied territory. Under the policy, the six entities and one individual listed will face asset freezes, travel bans, and disqualification from company director positions. The British government also announced a policy change regarding overseas business activities. For the first time, official government guidance will explicitly advise British companies not to engage in economic or financial activities in Israeli settlements deemed illegal. In addition to imposing sanctions, the UK also announced additional humanitarian aid for Palestine. London allocated new funds of £1 million for a humanitarian mine action programme in Gaza, adding to the £4 million previously disbursed. The British government also committed to providing at least £10 million in financial and technical support to the Palestinian Authority in 2026.
