UINSA Students Seal Campus Gates, Demanding Rector's Resignation

Surabaya - Students of Sunan Ampel State Islamic University (UINSA) Surabaya have sealed the main campus gates and established a protest post to demand that the university’s Rector, Akh Muzakki, resign from his position.

“This is actually a follow-up to yesterday’s action. We are continuing to increase the escalation and maintain the essence of this protest,” said the Vice President of the UbinSA Student Executive Council (Dema), Fadlurrakhman Fazle Purwardana, in Surabaya on Monday.

“This sealing serves as evidence of our friends’ disappointment. The disappointment and the hope that all demands are met have now become more tangible,” he added.

In addition to sealing the main gate, students have set up a post in front of the UINSA Rectorate Building as a base to remain on-site until their demands are met.

“We have established a post; we will stay and sleep here as long as Muzakki does not step down,” said Fadlurrakhman.

Despite the closure of the main gate, academic activities within the campus environment have not come to a total standstill, as students are still providing access through the southern gate and the rear entrance in the Gang Dosen area.

“We are not completely paralysing campus operations. There is still a back door in the Gang Dosen area that remains accessible to everyone,” he said.

During the protest, students presented eight points of demand to the UINSA leadership. The primary demand is for the Rector of UINSA, Akh Muzakki, to resign or be dismissed from his position.

Students are also demanding the eradication of practices involving corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN) within the campus environment, as well as reforms to the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) system.

Furthermore, the protesters are calling for the fulfilment of rights for new students that were previously delayed, an evaluation of campus facilities, improvements in public information transparency, and an evaluation of new student admission quotas.

Students have also included the revocation of campus curfew regulations in the list of demands submitted to the rectorate.
