UIN Walisongo Investigates Alleged Sexual Harassment Case Involving Lecturer and Female Student

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG – The State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo in Semarang, Central Java, has stated that it is investigating an alleged sexual harassment case perpetrated by a lecturer at the campus. The investigation was initiated after reports of the alleged harassment, with the victim being a female student, spread on social media.

The Instagram account @pesan_uinws was the entity that revealed the alleged sexual harassment case by a UIN Walisongo lecturer against a female student.

In its post on Tuesday (5/5/2026), @pesan_uinws uploaded several screenshots showing the content of conversations on an instant messaging platform.

In the conversation, the sender, allegedly a UIN Walisongo lecturer, wrote messages with lewd and vulgar content. The messages are believed to have been sent to his female student.

“This father figure keeps disturbing from time to time, please follow up. There are already many victims who have spoken up through DMs to the admin,” wrote @pesan_uinws in the caption of the post.

As of this report, the post had been shared more than 2,300 times. Nearly five thousand users had liked the post.

The Head of the Centre for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) at UIN Walisongo Semarang, Kurnia Muhajarah, revealed that her side had been following the news regarding the alleged sexual harassment case by a lecturer at the campus against a female student. “Currently, the team is working hard to dig into and investigate,” said Kurnia during a press statement at the UIN Walisongo Semarang Rectorate Building on Friday (8/5/2026).

The same sentiment was expressed by the Chair of the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) at UIN Walisongo, Nur Hasyim. He stated that the alleged sexual harassment case is currently being investigated by a joint team from PSGA and Satgas PPKS.

According to Nur, his side currently does not have access to reach the female student suspected to be the victim of the harassment. “In the end, we are using (the post from) @pesan_uinws as initial information to track this case. Then the investigation team will create the chronology,” he said.

He revealed that his side has attempted to communicate with the admin of the @pesan_uinws account. This is because the account was the first to reveal the alleged sexual harassment case by the lecturer against the female student.
