UIN Sunan Kalijaga Graduation: Vice Rector Announces Upcoming Medical Study Programme
Hundreds of graduates of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta took part in the graduation ceremony at the Prof H M Amin Abdullah Building on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. On that occasion, UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s Vice Rector III, Abdur Rozaki, delivered a speech rich in moral messages and motivation for the graduates.
In his address, Rozaki invited the graduates to look toward the tribune where their parents sit supporting them. He said the success of the students is inseparable from their families’ struggles.
‘There sit faces that today smile the widest, yet are the ones whose shoulders are the most tired—our fathers and mothers,’ Rozaki said.
He then asked the graduates to raise their mortarboards as a sign of respect to the parents and families who have backed their efforts throughout their studies.
Rozaki said UIN Sunan Kalijaga graduates must be ready to face changes in the world that are happening rapidly, from developments in technology to social and economic shifts. He added that graduates of an Islamic campus are not only equipped with knowledge but also values, ethics, and spirituality.
‘You are a generation that is tempered, not merely educated,’ he said.
In his address, Rozaki also highlighted UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s international achievements. In 2026, the campus ranked 37th in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies, and 7th in the world according to the Scimago Institutions Rankings by Subject in the field of Religious Studies.
More encouraging news came from a new licence granted by Kemendiktisaintek to open the Medical Study Programme and the Medical Profession Study Programme — a historic milestone in the development of UIN Sunan Kalijaga as a modern Islamic university.
For Professor Abdur Rozaki, these achievements are not merely institutional pride but ‘moral energy’ for graduates to advance with greater confidence, carrying the intellectual identity of UIN Sunan Kalijaga wherever they pursue their careers.
Towards the end of his speech, Rozaki delivered three main messages to the graduates. First, to become agents of change and not just spectators. Second, to create opportunities and not simply wait for opportunities to come. Third, to keep learning because the world will always change.
He also quoted Sutan Sjahrir’s words to ignite the graduates’ spirit.
‘H life that is not staked will never be won,’ he said.
While encouraging graduates to pursue their dreams, Rozaki reminded them of the importance of humility. He said the measure of a person is not in their position or achievements but in how much benefit they bring to others.
‘Through growth, keep inspiring, and keep bearing the name of our beloved alma mater, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta,’ he closed.
